The Foundation of the Hellenic World (FHW) has announced plans for a new, large-scale interactive digital tour of the Palace of Knossos, aiming to virtually reconstruct the most emblematic monument of the Minoan civilization through the use of advanced digital technologies.
The project was unveiled during the annual Christmas dinner of the “Friends of the FHW,” a nonprofit association that provides long-standing and essential support to the Foundation, contributing significantly to the funding of its cultural, research, and educational activities.
In her address, the Foundation’s Executive Vice President, Mrs. Sofia Kounenaki-Efraimoglou, expressed her sincere appreciation to the members of the association for their continued commitment, emphasizing that their contributions play a decisive role in the implementation of the Foundation’s strategic objectives.
Subsequently, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dimitris Efraimoglou, presented the core elements of the new production, underlining that the interactive digital experience of Knossos represents a key milestone in the Foundation’s mission to harness technology for the preservation of historical memory and the expansion of public access to cultural heritage.
The “Friends of the FHW,” comprising approximately 220 members, support the Foundation through fundraising initiatives and cultural activities, including museum visits and organized historical excursions.
This new production aligns with a broader international trend, as museums and cultural institutions worldwide increasingly adopt immersive digital experiences in order to engage younger audiences and international visitors, moving beyond traditional static exhibitions toward more dynamic and experiential interpretations of the past.
